St. Peter's Eastern Hill

This historic church is the oldest Anglican Church in Melbourne still standing on its original site. The foundation stone was laid in 1846 and formal consecration took place in 1853. The church has from its earliest days been associated with the catholic revival tradition within the Anglican heritage and still represents this tradition. Details of the activities and traditions of this active city parish may be found at St. Peter's excellent web site  here Of particular note are the parish musical traditions which are of enviably high standard. The gallery organ, a product of the 1970's pseudo baroque revival in Australia, is perhaps somewhat less distinguished - details are  here

A functional if somewhat spartan console but note the complete lack of registration aids - typical of the early stages of the baroque revival. Also note that one universal feature
of west end choir galleries is that they always tend to become less than meticulously neat!
